Dear WAVY-10 & Dish Network,
Okay, I’m pissed. I don’t know what is going on with you guys that you can’t work something out, but I want you to know that I am royally pissed. I’m super busy. I mean super duper busy and I know you don’t care about anyone especially because you’re both so very busy too, but I have a big complaint. Because I am super busy, I don’t have time for much TV, but the one time I make time is when my favorite show, American Idol, comes on. Don’t laugh, I’m not the only one who is feeling very deprived right now. But I know neither of you care because it’s all about money to you guys. I’m paying over a $100 now for satellite. That’s almost half a car payment for an older used model. That’s 1/4 of what I spend on groceries a month. That’s a lot to pay for one damn television show. I would at least like to watch that one damn television show. For you, Dish Network, it’s not enough to offer us Encore for a year free. Have you seen the movies that you have listed coming up? Come on now. Give us at least some new movies. How long has it been since Sleepless in Seattle came out? You also are guaranteeing our rates won’t go up for 2 years. Does that mean you’re not even going to budge so that we can have Fox back? Do you have any plans to find another station that carries Fox? Do you think we are going to sit by and take this with a grain of salt? This is so ridiculous. And yes I have considered going to cable because of this. Get something worked out or someone is going to lose a lot of customers. And you, LIN Media, what in the hell do you think you’re doing? Why does it always have to be about money?
I’m not happy.
– An Unsatisfied Dish Network customer
Okay, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, from what I can understand of it, WAVY-10 which airs the Fox Network, wanted a 140% rate increase from Dish Network and Dish decided to decline their offer and shut them down. LIN Media which owns the local television stations says their stations are invaluable and it would be a disservice to Dish Network subscribers for Dish not to go along with the price hike. According to Dish, they believed their customers were paying enough money and refused to budge. So off went WAVY-10 and along with it, Fox Network. Here’s the official report here.
According to one complaint, “Dish can broadcast the NBC and Fox broadcasts from another market.” If that is true, why aren’t they trying to do this for us?
Yesterday, I found a letter from Dish Network in my mail box. Without mentioning one word about WAVY-10, they are offering us a one year free supply of Encore movies. Plus, they are saying they promise their rates won’t go up for 2 years. There it is in writing, so I’m presuming it is what it is. I took a look at that list of movies. Nothing I haven’t already seen or never plan to see. I’m happy to hear they are happy with my $110 a month and won’t be raising it. How much higher can they raise it, for God’s sake?
My suggestion is this. Since I won’t be getting Fox anymore to watch the one damn show I watched on it, then lower my bill OR find another Fox network provider because if you don’t, I’ll be finding another dish or cable provider.
